Our Deck Down Under in Daytona Review

Tucked under the Dunlawton Bridge in Port Orange, you can find one of the best seafood restaurants in the Daytona Beach area: Our Deck Down Under. Both locals and visitors flock to this casual dining place for the food, fun, and atmosphere.

Our Deck Down Under is not your usual sit-down restaurant. When you arrive, you won’t be seated by a hostess. First, you’ll wait in line to order at the counter, and then find your seat inside or outside on the deck. If you’re lucky, the line will be short. I wouldn’t recommend stopping by the Deck Down Under during Biketoberfest or Speed Week because there will be a long wait to order your food. But if you can pick an off-time during the week, it is well worth the trip.

Grilled Mahi Mahi with rice, slaw and pups

The menu features Spiced Shrimp, fish sandwiches, Jambalaya and many other seafood favorites. And for those who don’t like seafood: ribs, hamburgers, and chicken sandwiches. On a recent visit, my daughter ordered the Grilled Mahi Mahi with rice, slaw and pups. When all you need to do is squeeze a bit of lemon on your fish, you know you’ve scored a great tasting seafood dish! My daughter loves the Deck’s hushpuppies, and she was quick to steal one of mine after she gobbling up her own.

Spiced Shrimp

You’ll be happy with the portions you get whether you are ordering a fish sandwich or a fish platter. For appetizers or a snack, I’m a big fan of their Cheddar Broccoli Bites. These bites are dripping with cheese and comes with a thousand-island type dipping sauce. I don’t even use the dipping sauce since the bites have so much flavor.

Of course, one of the bonuses about Our Deck Down Under is the view. Situated right on the Halifax River, you can watch the boats floating by during lunch or watch the sunset at dinner.

The view is amazing at Our Deck Down Under.

If you have any concern about the service since you order at a counter, don’t be. Once you’re seated, waitresses stop by to refill your drinks and take away your emptied plates.

The counter service gives this restaurant a laid-back feel, so you can get a great lunch or dinner while still dressed in your beach cover-up and flip-flops. If you are looking for great seafood and a casual place to hang out on the Halifax River, you can’t beat Our Deck Down Under.
