Cocina 214 of Daytona Review

Cocina 214 of Daytona Review

Cocina 214, originally based out of Winter Park, recently opened up their newest location on Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach. Cocina 214 is not your typical beachside dive. This Tex-Mex restaurant offers a funky, modern decor, an extensive menu filled with Mexican dish options, and a drink menu with unique concoctions.

It’s hard to choose where to sit, the inside, with its upscale decor and fun atmosphere, or the outside deck with an amazing panoramic view of the Atlantic. We opted to sit outside, as my husband and I had our kids with us, which allowed them to play with the outdoor bean bag toss and to sit near the fire pit while we waited for our food. I just love restaurants like this that allow the freedom to wander when waiting for the meal. Cocina 214 also offers an outdoor bar that you can walk right up the stairs to from the beach!

We started with drinks and an appetizer. My husband ordered their latest drink creation, the Cocina Guavarita. It had the original taste of a margarita yet with a sweetened flavor from the guava. He ordered the fried avocado bites, which had a nice crunch on the outside and creamy inside. The dipping sauce added a kick to this finger food. During Happy Hour (M-F 4-6:30 pm), you can score these avocado bites for just $6 along with several other appetizer deals, beer starting at $3 and mixed drinks and wine starting at just $5.

Cocina is all about offering up clean ingredients, where they commit to fresh ingredients with no preservatives or additives. They also have a menu labeled with vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options. They offer favorites like burritos, enchiladas and tacos as well as seafood, chicken and salad options. There’s something for everyone.

I ordered the steak fajitas which came with a generous portion of well-seasoned skirt steak, crispy vegetables and rice and beans. Their Pico de Gallo added just the right amount of spice to the fajitas. Cocina offers both corn or wheat tortillas, so you don’t have to go tortilla-less if you’re gluten-free!

My husband ordered the chicken burrito which was packed with rice, chicken, pico de gallo and finished with a tangy sour cream and ranchero sauce. The kids meals (quesadillas and burger) were a lot larger than I expected, so you definitely get your money’s worth, even with the kids meals. We had leftovers of everything to take home for lunch the next day.

Cocina 214 is a restaurant great for a date night or for a fun night out with the family.  They even offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays until 3pm. Whether you dine inside or outside, you get a beautiful view of the ocean at this beachside gem.
